Sedation Options

Dr. Watts hasĀ the advanced trainingĀ  and equipment to offer you the following options for a more relaxed dental visit. We are happy to discuss what would be the best option for you.

Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen

  • Commonly referred to as ‘Laughing Gas’
  • You inhale the gas through a small nose mask, and the level of gas is easily adjusted
  • This relaxing option is safe for kids and adults
  • The effects wear off within a few minutes of turning off the gas, so you can drive yourself home
  • The most common side effects include dizziness and nausea

Oral Sedatives

  • An oral medication is taken an hour before the appointment
  • Oral sedatives relieve anxiety and often make you relaxed and sleepy
  • The effects may last several hours, so a driver is needed to and fron appointments
  • The most common side effects include dizziness and hiccups

Combination of Nitrous Oxide and Oral Sedation

  • This option is best for people with high dental anxiety or who have a lot of treatment they’d like done in one visit.
  • People usually have little to no memory of their visit afterwards
  • Breathing, pulse, and blood pressure are monitored throughout the visit
  • This is not general anesthesia: people are able to communicate, breathe, and maintain all reflexes on their own
